Waiting For The Verdict

Its been six days since I sent out my manuscript for review. At least on Broadway you find out the next morning what the critics thought of your play!

Just to be safe, I did have several others review it before I sent it to "The Reviewers". Some of those that read the book offered suggestions on how to improve it, while I had others corrected grammar and punctuation. Over all they gave positive evaluations on the overall story-line.

I'm still working on developing the book cover. Even though it is a war novel, the book's theme isn't about war, its focus is two fold: keeping a promise, and the importance of documenting personal stories in a journal. With this in mind, I want the cover to inform the reader that the book is about war, but without the common action pictures that is commonplace in most war manuscripts. I have a picture of my grandfather and another soldier taken in 1909, demonstrating the use of field telephones. With both soldiers in uniform the reader should surmise that the book is military, yet the picture is passive with one soldier standing while the other is kneeling. Since the title is "The Great Promise", perhaps the reader will make a connection between the two men and a promise they made.

For all that I know, the soldier standing beside my grandfather might be one of the three chums involved in the promise. This assumption can not be proven either for or against because my grandfather didn't include the soldier's name.

With a great deal of anxiety I'm looking forward to receiving the reviews and finalizing the cover by weeks end so that I can submit the manuscript for internal design.
